The Anambra State Governor, Chief Willie Obiano, has presented a budget of N137.1billion for 2020 fiscal year to the state House of Assembly for consideration.
Presenting the budget theme: Budget for “Accelerating Infrastructural Development and Youth Entrepreneurship’, on Thursday at the floor of the House in Awka, Governor Obiano explained that out of the amount, the state will spend N58.69 billion on Recurrent Expenditure while N78.3 billion is on Capital Expenditure which would reflect significant infrastructural development next year with a view to facilitating the intended improvement in infrastructure of the state.

According to him, the 2020 budget plans to sustain past performance and ensure that Anambra state continues to maintain its status as a hub for business and a destination for new investments.
He added that in the 2020 fiscal year, Youth empowerment will be a key focus of his administration, with the aim of increasing job opportunities for the teeming youths thereby ensuring the social-economic growth of the state.
Giving the breakdown, Governor Obiano said, works and infrastructure would gulp N22.2 billion to be focused on the construction of new roads as well as the rehabilitation of existing ones, while N6 billion is allocated to Anambra International Cargo Airport project.
He added that Education, water resources/public utilities were allocated N8.3 billion and N3.75 billion respectively.
The Speaker, Hon. Uche Okafor assured that the 2020 budget would be given accelerated passage and called on commissioners, departments, agencies and parastatals to be ready for their budget defence as the House Committee on Finance and Appropriation as well as other committees would commence the budget defence soon.
