NYSC joins fight against pneumonia in Jigawa

THE National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) in Jigawa State has joined the fight against pneumonia and child mortality in the state with the training o f60 medical NYSC members on managing severe pneumonia.

This was disclosed by the NYSC coordinator in the state, Hajiya Aishatu Adam while opening the training of 60 medical NYSC members on techniques to manage severe pneumonia patients at their places of primary assignment.

The training was organised by a non-governmental organisation known as Save the Children International with support from GlaxoSmithKline at Manpower Development Institute in Dutse the state capital.

The NYSC coordinator who was represented by the camp director, Mr Sammanuwa Yusuf commended Save the Children for the training, and for coopting and engaging Corps members in the campaign against child killer diseases.

She said promoting integration, peace, development and survival of every Nigerian is among the cardinal principles of the scheme. She said the fight against pneumonia was within the scope.

The coordinator assured Save the Children that NYSC members will deliver a good job in the fight against pneumonia and other child killer diseases

On his part, the chief party INSPIRING project in the state, Dr Adamu Isah, who was represented by his communication officer, Mr George Akor, said the training is aimed at training the corps members on pneumonia, its symptoms, prevention and first aid measures.

Isah explained that Save the Children in support of GlaxoSmithKline (GSK) resolved to embark on the training following the discovery of an increase in pneumonia cases among the children in the country saying this will reduce child mortality.

“This programme will also create more synergy between NYSC corps members and Save the Children to make them aware on pneumonia and how to manage it in their respective place of service,” he said.
