In compliance with President Muhammadu Buhari’s ‘Change Begin With Me’ campaign, the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has commenced the training of its staff on proper and effective service delivery.
While declaring open the training in Keffi, Nasarawa State on Wednesday, the Director-General, Brigadier General, Suleiman Zakari Kazaure, stated that the scheme’s main objective is to instil discipline and patriotism in Nigeria youth.
The DG who was represented by the Director, Planning, Research and Statistics, Anthony Ani, said the management saw the need to revive the training for focal/desk officers.
According to him, the officers who are foot soldiers for effective service delivery must be well equipped with the right attitude to bring the desired change.
He charged the officers to avoid inefficiency and lackadaisical attitude to work.
“We must live up to the responsibility that has been entrusted to us by ensuring that the chain of service delivery runs smoothly in our various offices,” he said.
The Acting National Coordinator, SERVICOM, Mrs. Nnana Akajemeli, addressing the participants said the training serves as a means for desk officers to network and interact on issues concerning service delivery improvement in NYSC.
“It provides a platform where information, successes, knowledge and experience sharing as well as best practices among representatives from the state and zonal officers of NYSC are reported, discussed, benchmarked and shared with a view to improving service delivery to various stakeholders, ” she said.
She, however, urged the management to put a robust ministerial/parastatal SERVICOM committee in place to enhance its aim of improving service delivery.
