He stated this at the opening ceremony of the 2018 NYSC Inspectors Development Programme (IDP) training held at the Dan Yamusa Orientation Camp in Keffi local government area of the state on Wednesday.
The Inspectors were recruited from various NYSC state secretariats across the country in 2017.
The theme of the 2 days training expected to end on October 12 is, “Optimizing the ideals of the scheme through effective utilization of the NYSC inspector.”
Kazaure represented by Mrs Victoria Okaku, Director of Planning, Research and Statistics in the scheme charged them to live above board by serving as role models and mentors to corp members placed under their care so as to actualize a set goal of the scheme of churning out vibrant youths equipped with excellent leadership qualities.
“As the foot soldiers of the scheme, inspectors are expected to live above board and serve as role models and mentors to corp members. Expectedly, you are to shun acts capable of denting the good image of the scheme and perform your duties diligently,” he said.
He said Inspectors play vital roles in the implementation of the mandate of the scheme at the grassroot hence the charge to them to protect the scheme’s image and promote its relevance by handling issues of corp members with a high sense of care, seriousness, maturity and professionalism.

Kazaure explained that the essence of the training is to build the inspectors capacity and improve their capability and competence so that they can offer impressive service delivery to the scheme most especially corp members they will be tasked to be directly involved with.
“The programme is designed to provide participants with adequate and current knowledge of the scheme towards meeting challenges of corp members. It also aims to establish performance standard, sharpen and improve the appraisal of skills of participants.
“Also, the programme will improve the performance level of NYSC inspectors and engender self-confidence in officers in the course of performing their duties,” he said.
The NYSC DG then expressed hope that the training will afford the participants the opportunity to interact with each other, exchange ideas and proffer solutions capable of enhancing productivity and increasing relevance of the scheme.
Speaking earlier, Mr Abdulrasheed Sanusi, Acting Director, Corps Welfare and Inspectorate Department, NYSC said officers in the Inspectorate cadre of the scheme are in the front line of policy implementation at the grassroots level hence the vital need to ensure they receive requisite training to equip them face the challenges of corp administration both at the point of entry and as they progress in the cadre.
“The theme of this year’s programme ‘Optimising the ideals of the scheme through effective utilization of the NYSC Inspector’ is therefore apt as it will teach and expose you to all you need to successfully discharge your duties as an inspector,” he said.
In an interview, Mrs Ene Audu, a participant and an Inspector II cadre officer from River State NYSC secretariat said the training so far has been beneficial as they have been taught to know the technical ‘know how’ of the job so as not to make mistakes but make wise informed decisions that are in line with the rules of the scheme.
“The programme is an opportunity whereby newly recruited inspectors are trained to be effective on the job when we go out on the field. The programme has been so beneficial and I have learnt so much. One was done last year. This is the second one but you know consistent training is very important and NYSC is doing a very good job at that,” she said.
