The Commandant of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Oyo State Command, Augustine Padonu, has charged newly promoted senior officers to exemplify the highest standards of professionalism, integrity, and dedication to duty, as the promotion has placed increased responsibilities and expectations on their shoulders.
The Commandant also enjoined them to see their new positions as being entrusted with greater responsibilities in service to Nigeria.
Padonu gave the charge on Thursday in his address at the decoration of 390 senior officers who were recently promoted.
The event, held at the command headquarters at Agodi GRA, Ibadan, was graced by officers from other security agencies, including the Nigerian Army, Department of State Services, Nigeria Police Force, Nigeria Air Force, the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, Nigeria Immigration Service, Nigeria Correctional Service, and Operation Burst, all in Oyo State.

Among the decorated officers were the Public Relations Officers of the command, Samuel Opebiyi, a Deputy Superintendent of Corps who is now a Superintendent of Corps, and Oluokun Uthman, also of the PR Department, who rose from Assistant Superintendent of Corps to become a Deputy Superintendent of Corps.
Commandant Padonu further admonished. “Let me remind you that these new ranks are not merely decorative symbols but badges of increased responsibility.
“You must justify this promotion through exemplary service and unwavering commitment to the Corps’ mandate of protecting lives and property, maintaining peace, and safeguarding critical infrastructure.”
He thanked the Minister of Interior, Dr Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, for his transformative leadership and unwavering commitment to the welfare of NSCDC personnel.
Padonu also appreciated the leadership and commitment of the Commandant General, Dr Ahmed Abubakar Audi, which ensured that deserving officers get their promotions as and when due, saying that this has fostered a culture of merit and excellence within all ranks.
He acknowledged the sacrifice and support by the officers’ families and loved ones, saying that their understanding and encouragement contributed significantly to the success being celebrated.
He also congratulated the officers, praying that the new ranks would bring them renewed vigour and determination to serve with distinction.
In a goodwill message, the representative of the General Officer Commanding and the Garrison Commander of the 2 Division of the Nigerian Army, Major Muritala Mohammed Bature, urged the newly decorated officers to be dedicated to their duties and ensure that the mandates assigned to them are properly carried out.
The NSCDC spokesman, SC Opebiyi, who expressed joy at the promotion and decoration, said that it signifies higher responsibility from him, promising to discharge his responsibilities in a way that would showcase the command positively and make sure that all activities and efforts in securing the state are felt by all residents.
Also, DSC Oluokun, who said he was elated by the promotion, promised to work more to ensure reduction in insecurity in the state.
