Nigeria’s leadership crisis drifting economic growth – GOTNI founder

Published by

Nigeria’s businesses and families are facing significant challenges due to a widespread leadership deficit, according to Dr Linus Okorie, Founder of the GOTNI Leadership Centre.

In a media chat with journalists in Abuja, Okorie expressed concern about the lack of effective leadership at various levels, which he believes is causing economic stagnation and social instability across the country.

Okorie emphasized that the leadership shortfall is one of the reasons behind the upcoming National Leadership Conference, where world-renowned experts like Brian Tracy, George Fraser, and Femi Lazarus will gather to address the issue.

The conference, themed “Leadership Capital for Wealth Creation”, is scheduled to take place from September 20–21, 2024, at the Transcorp Hilton Hotel in Abuja.

“This event will serve as a platform to discuss the leadership crisis that has hindered Nigeria’s progress for decades and to offer solutions to reverse this trend,” Okorie said.

During a press conference, Okorie highlighted the relevance of the conference given the economic, institutional, and social challenges currently facing Nigeria. He pointed out that the leadership deficit is affecting businesses and families, and the need to bridge this gap is essential for driving positive change in the country.

“With Nigeria’s evolving economic structure, it has become a priority to equip citizens with the leadership skills and knowledge needed to create sustainable wealth and foster financial growth,” Okorie stated.

The conference will feature a diverse lineup of notable speakers, including George C. Fraser, CEO of FraserNet, Inc.; Dr. Andy Ikekhinde, President of TGC Network Inc.; Michael V. Roberts, JD, Chairman & CEO of The Roberts Companies; and Senator Lawrence Ewhrudjakpo, Deputy Governor of Bayelsa State, among others.

According to Okorie, Africa’s leadership crisis is also linked to its growing debt profile, driven by foreign loans often disguised as aid from Western and Asian countries. This, he said, has further compounded the continent’s economic struggles and is rooted in poor leadership and mismanagement of its vast resources.
