Nigerians in Diaspora call for deregistration of Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association

Nigerians in diaspora on the platform of the Global Coalition for Security and Democracy in Nigeria (GCSDN), have sent a petition to the Deputy Senate President, Senator Obarisi Omo-Agege, and the Registrar General of the Corporate Affairs Commission, Garba Abubakar, requesting the deregistration of the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association.

According to the petition signed by  the global coordinator, Frederick Odorige and the General Secretary, Edmond Ikeh of the group, the continuing national embarrassment resulting from the endless and senseless killings and kidnappings in Nigeria has become a very deep and painful source of concern to us in the diaspora, adding that, “We find it extremely difficult to explain this horrifying situation to our friends, colleagues, business partners and members of the international community.”

A copy if the petition which was made available to newsmen reads in part: “Is the provision of security and welfare no longer the fundamental principles of the Nigerian constitution? It is no longer news that the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association of Nigeria is behind most of these criminal actions. They apparently supply herders and other criminals with lethal weapons to carry out their murderous activities. Video of herders who stated how they were given guns without their request has gone viral.

“This umbrella organisation of Fulani herdsmen in Nigeria has owned up to several killings which led to mass burials in Benue and Plateau State. They were also fingered as attempting to kill Governor Samuel Ortom of Benue State.

“We hereby request that the Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association, MACBAN, should be deregistered from the records of the Corporate Affairs Corporation. As long as they continue their criminalities, steps must also be taken to ensure that they are not allowed to register in other names, as a way of furthering their illegal activities.

“There is no ethical basis for CAC to continue the registration and legitimization of MACBAN as a corporate association when its activities have bred murderous herdsmen who, in 2015, were listed by the Global Terrorism Index as the fourth deadliest terrorist group in the world. Accurate Statistics have lost count of their numerous killings. We are aware that some politicians and traditional rulers are owners of the cattle, but we must not politicise crime, neither must national peace and security be sacrificed on the dangerous altar of tribal unionism.

” This group has maimed and raped hard-working Nigerian women in their farms and destroyed farm products in ways that cannot be explained. It is very clear that this is not all about cattle breeding. For how long will this be allowed to continue?

“Though President Buhari reportedly ordered that persons found with AK-47 should be shot, our forests remain very dangerous for farmers, while ethnic tensions and hostilities continue unabated,” it stated.

The group through the petition also lamented over the bloodshed of innocent Nigerians and that the level of distrust and suspicion is inexplicable, noting that no one had adhered to President Buhari’s order despite the pronouncement to submit guns to the relevant security agencies.

“It is no longer news that the activities of this association have given a negative image to the Fulani race with whom we had peacefully cohabited for decades. No well-meaning Security Agency or Fulani must allow this anomaly to continue. What will Nigeria become if all associations unlawfully carry guns and machetes in this century?

“Every effort we make to improve the image of Nigeria abroad has been destroyed by palpable fear and suspicion. This murderous culture will continue to discourage investors and put our country in a shameful and despicable light.

“Those in positions of authorities must not be seen to be protecting tribe above country. Whatever comes around, goes around. We do not wish to believe that the government of Nigeria is waiting for the murderous group to kill a governor, federal legislator, or other top-ranking government officials before urgent action is taken.

“The Miyetti Allah Cattle Breeders Association must be deregistered now. Tomorrow may be too late. All Nigerian lives matter. A stitch in time saves nine.

The organisation, which has its headquarters in the United States of America, also copied to the National Security Adviser, Retd. Mohammed Babagana Monguno,  Chairman, Senate Committee on Diaspora Affairs, Senator Dr. Ibrahim Yahya Oloriegbe and Chairman, Committee on Diaspora Affairs of the House of Representatives, Hon. Tolulope Akande-Sadipe.
