THE Commander of the 16 Brigade and Commissioner of Police in Bayelsa State have pledged to intensify efforts at protecting National Youth Service Corps members posted to the State.
The 16 Brigade Commander, Major General Obinna Onubogu and Commissioner of Police, Sholla David made this pledge when the Director-General of the NYSC, Maj-Gen Suleiman Kazaure paid them a courtesy visit in Yenagoa.
Maj-Gen Suleiman Kazaure, Director-General of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC) has described Bayelsa as one of the volatile states in terms of security in the country.
Represented by Commander of the Brigade Garrison, Lit Col Suleiman Abdullahi, Onubogu described NYSC as a critical contributor to national development.
Onubogu commended the NYSC DG on his tour and pledged more support in order to improve the safety of corps members in the State.

The State Police Commissioner also assured the NYSC DG of the Police’s commitment to improve the safety of corps members.
According to David, “We have moved to get a list of Corps members lodges so that we can provide patrol team and ensure their safety.
“I assure you that cult attacking corps members will come to an end. In this state, cultism and drug-related crimes are problems but we will get to the end of them.”
Speaking earlier, the NYSC DG said that the essence of the visit was to solicit for more cooperation from critical stakeholders in the State, in order to ensure adequate safety of corps members, who are on national assignment.
The DG, who expressed worry over the incessant attack on corps members in Bayelsa, said he had discovered that the State was volatile in terms security.
He urged the military, police and other critical stakeholders for more support for safety of the Corps members in the State.
“We want your cooperation to ensure the safety of these corps members and their corps lodges. Why I am saying this because you are critical stakeholders when it comes to security.
“Please, look after our children, there are our national assets,” the DG said.
