Niger NYSC orientation camp structures destroyed by rainstorm, gets facelift

Governor Mohammed Umaru Bago of Niger State has deployed men and materials to renovate the camp structures of the National Youths Service Corps (NYSC) orientation camp at Paiko, an outskirts of Minna the state capital, said to have been destroyed by rain storms .

It was gathered that there had been strong rainstorms in Minna, Paikoro, and other parts of the State over the past few  days.

It was further learnt that among the buildings affected by the rain storm include the camp’s  multi-purpose hall, stores, clinic, security post, pavilion, and electrical poles.

Further checks revealed that the Governor had  sent men and materials after the swearing-in of Corps Members in the 2024 Batch A stream II at the Permanent Orientation Camp, in Paiko.

The  State’s  NYSC Coordinator, Mrs. Alidat Olayinka, disclosed during the swearing-in of the corps members deployed to the state of the approval by Governor Umaru Bago,  of the renovation of structures destroyed by the rainstorm.

She stated further that the state  government had earlier approved the renovation of the entire NYSC orientation camp in a bid to ensure the comfort of corps members.

Olayinka however charged  the Corps members to sustain a high level of discipline and remain compliant with camp rules and regulations.

“You must continue to distance yourself from cultism, drug abuse, and other social vices. I also urge you to avoid using social media to fuel fake news, fuelling hatred and other negative purposes but rather deploy same for the promotion of national unity and development,” she said.

The state NYSC  Coordinator admonished the Corps members to be security conscious and report any suspicious activity to the camp authorities, emphasizing  the need for them to avail themselves of the skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development (SAED) during their stay in camp.

The  State Governor, Mohammed Bago represented by the  Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Yahaya Ibrahim Gulbinboka assured  that the government is committed to prioritizing the welfare and security of corps members.

He further promised the corps members of their safety,  stressing that they should not seek redeployment as the government is determined to ensure their safety.

Congratulating the corps members for the successful completion of their tertiary education, Governor Umaru Bago urged them to see the call as an opportunity to contribute to the development of the country.
