Niger Gov charges N-HYPPADEC on more social projects

Niger State Governor, Hon. Mohammed Umaru Bago, has charged the management of the National-Hydro Power Producing Areas Development Commission (N-HYPPADEC) to embark on more social responsibility projects for the benefit of the hosting state.

Governor Bago gave the charge while the management paid him a courtesy call at the Government House in Minna, the state capital. He expressed dismay that the 32 per cent benefit allocated to the state was not enough.

He reiterated the commitment of the state government to partner with the commission for effective and efficient service delivery.

He also pointed out that the state, despite hosting four Hydro Power Dams, has not been adequately recognized in terms of power generation in Nigeria.

The Governor further advocated for adequate sensitisation and enlightenment of communities to save lives and properties of citizens, as well as clearing water channels to curb flooding.

He stressed the need for synergy with the state government in project implementations to avoid duplication.

Earlier, the Managing Director of N-HYPPADEC, Alhaji Abubakar Sadiq Yelwa, appreciated the contributions of the state and the governor towards the actualization of the commission’s goals.

He expressed commitment to boosting the cordial working relationship for its operations. Yelwa also mentioned that the Commission has amended its name to National-Hydro Power Producing Areas Development Commission (N-HYPPADEC) and highlighted that additional four states, namely Gombe, Taraba, Nassarawa, and Kaduna, have been admitted to the Commission.

He emphasised that Niger State has the highest number of local government councils, with 17 and 3 area offices in New Bussa, Gwada, and Bida respectively.
