NALDA launches poultry empowerment programme in Osun

The National Agricultural Land Development Authority (NALDA) has launched the Renewed Hope Women and Youth Empowerment Programme in Oba-Oke, Olorunda Local Government Area of Osun State, in line with President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s agenda to stimulate grassroots economic development and agricultural productivity.

Speaking at the event, the Executive Secretary of NALDA, Cornelius Oluwasegun Adebayo, described the programme as a “transformative initiative” designed to uplift Nigeria’s middle economic class through a sustainable poultry farming model.

According to Adebayo, the project is built on a revolving scheme where beneficiaries receive two poultry cages, twenty 3-week-old birds, and four bags of feed.

After rearing the birds for 3–4 weeks, registered off-takers will purchase the mature poultry, with profits shared among NALDA, the beneficiaries, and the host communities.

“This model creates a cycle of reinvestment and growth, enabling more people to participate while ensuring economic returns for all stakeholders,” he noted.

Tracing NALDA’s history, he recalled its initial formation in 1992 and its revitalisation in June 2020 under the Buhari administration.

The Authority, he said, holds vast agricultural lands in trust for communities and is mandated to develop them, from land preparation to storage and marketing, through partnerships with local and international stakeholders.

He emphasised that the initiative is not just a government handout but a social enterprise that can drive national food security and boost agricultural exports.

“While we operate within a political environment, this initiative transcends politics. It is about creating tangible, sustainable opportunities for women and youth,” he stated.

The NALDA Executive Secretary also called on participants to uphold the programme’s terms to ensure its continuity and expansion.

He commended President Tinubu’s commitment to delivering on his promises, saying that his actions are already yielding visible results.

Expressing gratitude to community members and partners who supported the launch, Adebayo said, “the seeds we plant today will grow into mighty shade trees that will benefit this state and beyond.”

The event drew stakeholders from across the state, including representatives from local communities, youth groups, and women’s associations.
