THE National Insurance Commission (NAICOM) has poured encomium on the late Chief Eugene Okwor, describing him as the architect of the institution’s early foundations, who guided the regulator through uncharted territories by shaping its identity with his vision, wisdom and unwavering dedication.
The Commission stated that Chief Okwor’s leadership laid the groundwork for the success and growth which the NAICOM continues to experience today.
Announcing his demise, the insurance sector regulator said, “It is with deep sorrow and a heavy heart that the entire Management and Staff of the National Insurance Commission (NAICOM) share the news of the passing of our esteemed pioneer Commissioner for Insurance/Chief Executive Officer (1992 – 1996), Chief. Eugene Okwor.
“He departed from this world on January 14, 2024, leaving behind a legacy that will forever be etched in the annals of our institution’s history.
“Chief Eugene Okwor was not merely a leader; he was the architect of our institution’s early foundations, guiding us through uncharted territories and shaping our identity with his vision, wisdom and unwavering dedication. His leadership laid the groundwork for the success and growth we continue to experience today”.
The NAICOM stated that during his tenure, Chief Okwor exemplified the highest standards of integrity, innovation and compassion, and his commitment to excellence and tireless efforts to propel the institution forward were not only evident in the achievements that the agency celebrate but also in the profound impact he had on the lives of those fortunate enough to work alongside him.
”As we mourn the loss of a remarkable leader, let us also celebrate his indomitable spirit. His legacy will forever inspire us to uphold the principles and values he held dear, ensuring that his vision continues to guide our institution toward a future he envisioned.”
The management extends its deepest condolences to Chief Eugene Okwor’s family during this difficult time, and urged them to find solace in the knowledge that his contributions have left an indelible mark on the insurance industry and the countless lives he touched, adding that “In honour of Chief Eugene Okwor, let us come together as a community to commemorate his life and the enduring impact he has had on us all”.
The NAICOM stated that the burial arrangement will be as announced by the family.
