National Agency for Food and Drug Administration and Control (NAFDAC) is to sanction any master bakers who failed to comply with the agency standard.
The Director General of NAFDAC, Mrs Christiana Adeyeye gave the warning in Lokoja, Kogi state, on Tuesday, during a workshop organised by the agency for Master Bakers on Compliance to Good Hygienic Practice.
The DG, who was represented by Director North Central zone, Mrs Julian Abayomi, said after the workshop, the agency will go round the state and sanction any baker that is found wanting.
According to her, such offender will pay a maximum of N100,000 and minimum of N50,000 to the agency, adding that most bakeries in the country operate in an environment that is not hygienic for production of bread which people consumed on daily basis.

The Director General stressed that their mission is to safeguard the health of the people, adding that NAFDAC is customer friendly and not interested in making people pack up their businesses.
“We promote business without compromising standard because the life of every Nigeria is very important.
“Bakers products must come of age they must be 21st-century compliance. Many of you operate below hygienic practice,” she said.
Earlier the state coordinator, Mr James Kigbu in his welcome address, said the last time such workshop was held for the Master Bakers was ten years ago.
He added that it becomes necessary for the agency to organised the workshop for them so that they can comply with good hygienic practice before, during and after production.
