“MY lord, my wife is full of vices. She’s a liar, thief and fights like a jackal. She’s also promiscuous. I decided to drag her before this honourable court because she’s married to another man aside me.”
“He beats me, brings home his lovers and sleeps with them on our bed. We once fought, had our marriage dissolved in court and I got married to another man. Our differences were later resolved by our family members and I moved back to his house.”
A man, Ismail Yussuff has told Ile Tuntun Customary Court, Oja Oba, Mapo, Ibadan, Oyo State, he’s fed up with his wife, Khadijat Yussuf, and therefore prayed that it dissolved their marriage.
Ismail, in his divorce suit, alleged that his wife had failed to give him rest. He stated that she was a habitual liar whose main occupation was to fight.
The plaintiff further told the court that the defendant was promiscuous and skilled in the art of stealing. He added that she was presently married to another man aside him.
Ismail thus appealed to the court aside separating them, to grant him custody of their three children for proper attention and monitoring so that they don’t take after her.
Kadijat denied all the allegations brought against her by her husband stating that he always failed to feed the home and would beat her any time she asked for food allowance.
She added that he had no regard for her and was in the habit of bringing home his lovers and sleeping with them on their bed.
The defendant further explained that she got married to another man after a customary court dissolved her marriage to Ismail, but that that their differences were later resolved by both families and she moved back to his house.
Ruling after he had listened to both parties, the court president, Chief Olasunkanmi Agbaje, adjourned the case and directed that they come with their children, parents and other witnesses before judgment was given.
“My lord, I’ve faced enough embarrassment as a result of my wife’s atrocities. She has given me no rest and this is taking its toll on my health. I pray that you separate us before she kills me, “Ismail said.
“We lived in five different houses as a result of her troublesome nature. She used to fight not only me but also our co-tenants and landlords. We always had our belongings thrown out at the end of the day.
“She refused to stop misbehaving even after we moved to our personal house. She will leave home as early as 8:00 am and will not return until 10:00 pm. I often complain about this but she has refused to change. She will at times leave home without my consent and lock the children out, leaving them to starve.
“She ransacks my wardrobe and drawer and steals my money but will always deny it.
“I once lost my job and was financially bankrupt after I had expended all I had in my account on feeding the home. She gave me hell during this period and never ceased to embarrass me.
“I got fed up with her and sued for divorce at Olowu Customary Court and this was granted me. Our differences were later resolved by both families three months after the court ruling, and she moved back to my house, “he said.
“Kadijat is a harlot. We were both in bed one night and her phone rang. I picked the call and put the phone on speaker. The call was from her lover who threatened to deal with me if I dare to meet him at Odogbo Army Barracks. She denied ever knowing the man.
“She informed me she was going to Lagos to work, but left without my consent. I later discovered she was living with another man in Kano. We again fought but had the issue resolved after our relatives mediated in it.
“I once met a man in her shop who our child told me was his mother’s lover. I got angry and slapped the man who took to his heels. Our neighbours informed me afterwards that she was in the habit of bringing different men to her shop and our matrimonial home.
“My wife went for a vocational training in hairdressing and on her graduation day she presented two husbands. I was at the occasion likewise another man who likewise played the role expected of a husband. I was shocked and showed my displeasure. Her family members apologised to me on her behalf and explained that she got married to the other man shortly after the court dissolved our marriage, “the plaintiff concluded.
“My lord, I don’t agree to divorce mainly because of our children, “Kadijat stated.
“He’s the adulterous one. He has no regard for me or my feelings. He brings his girlfriends to our house and sleeps with them on our bed.
“He lavishes money on his lovers but starves me and our children who look like scare crow. When I complain, he accuses me of nagging and took to staying back in his shop to avoid attending to our requests and needs.
“I decided going to him in his shop to make our needs known to him and he will always beat me blue black.
“My lord, I got married to another man after he dragged me to court for divorce. Few months later, our family members initiated the move to reconcile us and I moved back to his house,” she stated.
