Moroccan, Egyptian envoys visit Wike to strengthen ties

Minister of the FCT, Nyesom Wike on Monday, hosted the Ambassadors of the Kingdom of Morocco and the Republic of Egypt, separately.

Both nations were excited over the idea of Abuja collaborating with Rabat and Cairo in areas of agriculture, skills acquisition, and others.

Receiving the Moroccan envoy to Nigeria, Moha Ali Tagma, Wike said he would be ready to visit Rabat so that both capitals can cooperate in the areas of agriculture and skills development.

Wike accepted the invitation to visit Rabat. “We are sure that once we get the invitation from Rabat as we said, we will try to make sure it takes place very soon.

“So accept it that we would like to do that and know what we can do to have mutual benefit amongst the two cities.”

Wike also assured the ambassador of an allocation of land for their embassy building.

The Moroccan Ambassador, Tagma praised Wike for the massive infrastructure he is providing in Abuja.

“I would like to thank you for all that you are doing for us as diplomats and inhabitants of your territory. I also want to welcome you, to express my thanks,, and to welcome you to Morocco one day. We will be very happy to receive you on an official visit to Morocco to meet your counterpart in our capital and also to many members of the government of Morocco.”

“I want to invite you officially. I will transmit to you the official invitation by your counterpart, and I hope that you can pay this visit to Morocco as soon as possible.”

On the embassy building, the ambassador told the minister that they have already “signed a contract with the company which will construct this building and we are waiting for the facilities that the FCT will give us in this issue.”

In a related development, the ambassador of the Republic of Egypt, Mohamed Fouade, who also praised Wike for the developmental strides in Abuja, sought cooperation between Abuja and Cairo since Egypt now has a new administrative capital.

He said: “Of course, it would be a pleasure to work on enhancing cooperation between Abuja and Cairo, especially since now in Egypt we have this new administrative capital, which is a huge project. So far, I think investments surpassed 50 million dollars.

“So I think there is room for Abuja and Cairo to get closer because actually Nigeria preceded Egypt in terms of relocating capital. You have done this task maybe 40 years ago or more. So we have just started this a few years ago, and I think there is a lot of experience to share between Cairo and Abuja when it comes to this.

“I can see the drastic changes, especially when it comes to infrastructure. This is why you are duly labeled as Mr. Project and Best Minister of 2024. So, congratulations.

Wike assured the ambassador of security and safety, “Ours is to make sure that our guests carry out their business, which is to have a very conducive environment, and it would be an honor to see what we can do with Cairo in terms of partnership, particularly in the area of agriculture and vocational training. It’s very key for us.
