Mob beats Lagos policeman unconscious for pushing man into BRT lane

In a disturbing incident in the Ketu area of Lagos State, a mob brutally beat an unidentified policeman following a tragic accident involving a man named Yusuf and a BRT bus.

Eyewitnesses at the scene reported that the policemen were attempting to dispossess Yusuf of his vehicle when he was allegedly pushed into the path of an oncoming BRT bus. The impact of the collision left Yusuf injured and lying motionless on the BRT lane.

An anonymous eyewitness recounted the events to PUNCH, claiming that the policemen were responsible for the unfortunate ordeal that Yusuf had to endure.

According to the witness, the officers were trying to force Yusuf out of his vehicle, but their actions led to him being pushed into the path of the BRT bus. The result was a devastating collision that left Yusuf unconscious and seriously injured.

Another witness, who spoke hurriedly amidst the chaos at the scene, revealed that after the accident, the policemen attempted to flee.

However, an angry mob managed to apprehend one of the officers and subjected him to a violent beating, leaving him unconscious but still breathing.

The mob was infuriated by the actions of the policemen, holding them responsible for the tragic incident that had unfolded before their eyes.

PUNCH observed the distressing scene as concerned individuals rushed to assist Yusuf, who remained unconscious on the BRT lane.

Witnesses attempted to revive him by pouring water on him, hoping he would regain consciousness.

Simultaneously, officers from the Ketu Divisional Police Station attempted to rescue their injured colleague, who also lay motionless on the ground.

The officer’s uniform bore signs of the brutal assault he had endured at the hands of the angry mob.

Amidst the commotion, people expressed their anguish over the incident, placing the blame squarely on the policemen involved.

Yusuf’s injuries were visibly severe, with a deep cut on his right arm. He was swiftly taken to a nearby vehicle for immediate transportation to a hospital for medical treatment.

The situation further escalated as more officers from the Ketu Division arrived at the scene to restore order and bring calm to the agitated crowd. The injured policeman was also rushed to the hospital for medical attention.

Despite attempts to reach the state Police Public Relations Officer, SP Benjamin Hundeyin, he had not provided a statement as of the time this report was filed.
