The Sokoto State Government on Monday asked the State Council of the Nigeria Labour Congress to submit its proposal of the new minimum wage.
Recalled that the NLC, after its meeting held in Rivers State, had issued a statement directing its members across the state who have not approved the new minimum wage to embark on strike if no approval is granted by the end of this month (November).
The State Deputy Governor, Alhaji Idris Mohammed Gobir, while answering questions from newsmen shortly after a meeting with leaders of the Labour Union on Monday, said that he would facilitate the process of harmonisation.
The deputy governor said the state government is committed to the implementation of the new minimum wage for its workforce.
“Go and bring your proposal for the new minimum wage implementation, and I can assure you that I will facilitate the process of quick harmonisation.
“The state government, under our performing governor, Ahmed Aliyu Sokoto, is fully committed to the implementation of a new minimum wage for the state workforce.”
Earlier in his remarks, the state chairman of the NLC, Comrade Abdullahi Aliyu Jungul, enjoined civil servants to remain calm as all necessary arrangements are being made for the implementation of the new minimum wage.
He assured that the union would forward its proposed table as requested by the state government any time from now.
He commended the state government for showing genuine commitment to the implementation of the new salary scale.
