The defendant, who resides at Karu village in Abuja, is standing trial on a three-count charge of joint act, assault and robbery, the allegations he denied.
The prosecutor, Ayotunde Adeyanju, told the court that one Kanshio Simeon of Asokoro, Abuja, reported the matter at the Karu Police Station on Nov 18.
Adeyanju said that the complainant alleged that the defendant conspired with one Babao, armed with cutlass and axe and attacked him while he was walking along Karu road.
He added that in the process, the defendant collected the complainant’s Tecno Spark 2 phone, valued N35,000 and a cash sum of N50,000.

The prosecutor also informed the court that in the course of investigations, the defendant admitted to have committed the crime and all efforts to recover the stolen item from him proved abortive.
According to him, the offences contravenes Sections 79, 269 and 298 of the Penal Code.
The judge, Aliyu Kagarko, granted the defendant N300,000 bail and asked him to provide one surety, who must also be residing within the court’s jurisdiction.
He adjourned the case until Dec 17 for further hearing.
