A 40-yr-old man, Abiodun Idowu, has been arrested by operatives of the Ogun State Police Command for allegedly killing one of his co-workers, Abimbola Hazmat (38) during an attempt to rape her at Onipanu area of the state.
The suspect was arrested following a complaint by one Owolabi Moses, who reported the incident at the Onipanu police station.
TribuneOnline gathered that the suspect, a driver at a table water factory, had been making love advances to the victim, who was an accountant at the same company.
The lady was said to have been rejecting the man’s love advances, but on the said date, it was learnt that the lady was alone in the factory when the suspect came and attempted to forcefully have sex with her.
It was in the process that the suspect strangled the lady to death, it was further learnt.
Confirming the incident to the Nigerian Tribune, the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO) of the command, ASP Abimbola Oyeyemi, said on the strength of the report, the DPO at Onipanu Division, SP Sangobiyi Johnson, led detectives to the scene where they met the suspect unconscious.
“Investigations revealed that the suspect, having realised that he had committed a serious crime, made efforts to kill himself by drinking Hypo and Izal.
“The DPO and his men quickly rushed him to the hospital for medical attention where he was treated and discharged before being taken into custody,” the PPRO said.
ASP Oyeyemi said the state Commissioner of Police, Ahmed Iliyasu, had ordered that the suspect should be transferred to the homicide section of the State Criminal Investigation and Intelligence Department (SCIID) for proper investigation and prosecution.
