Oyo State Governor, Engr Seyi Makinde, on Monday, accompanied by the former governor of the state and Otun Olubadan of Ibadanland, Oba Rashidi Ladoja, inspected the 32.2km East Wing of the Ibadan Circular Road Project.
The 32.2km East Wing connects the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway to Badeku Village on the Ibadan-Ile Ife Road.
Tribune Online recalls that Senator Ladoja envisioned the 110-kilometre Ibadan Circular Road Project during his governorship between 2003 and 2007.
Governor Makinde, however, has taken on the execution of this project, which aims to reduce traffic congestion in the Ibadan metropolis and boost industrialisation in the state.
The governor explained that the project would be the first motorway in Nigeria, stating, “The Circular Road will be the very first motorway in Nigeria. With the Circular Road, we are redefining the city limit not just for Ibadan but for the majority of the local governments around Ibadan.”
The Makinde administration has committed to completing the first phase of the project, which includes the 32.2km East Wing and the 36.7km North-East Wing, connecting Badeku Village to Akinyele Local Government.
Governor Makinde and Oba Ladoja were accompanied by the Senior Executive Assistant (General Administration) to the governor, Chief Bayo Lawal, among other dignitaries.
