There was a low turnout of voters across Ogbomoso on Saturday during the gubernatorial election compared to what was witnessed in the presidential election.
As at 10.00am, polling units were almost empty in many places with people just coming in one at a time.
At most polling booths, the officials were seen sitting with nobody to start while many people mill around without going to vote.
The long queues and excitement that characterised the last election was also missing and most of the people that spoke with Tribune Online did not give any reason for not voting.
Some of the voters expressed the opinion that the coalition between parties which narrowed the election down to a contest between two major parties may be responsible.
Speaking on the issue, Senator Abdulfatai Buhari, stated that the reason people are taking their time is that there’s no tension and they don’t have to accredit before coming to vote, adding that he is sure the turnout will be better by afternoon.
Another voter who said his name is Samuel stated that, “many people know where the vote will end, with the Otun of the source, Chief Adebayo Alao-Akala and Senator Buhari working for a party, we know where it will end,” he stated.
