The APC said this in a statement made available by its publicity secretary, Mr Joe Igbokwe, in reaction to the press conference addressed earlier in the day by the State Chairman of PDP, Hon. Moshood Salvador, who alleged that the last poll exercise was rigged by the State Independent Electoral Commission (LASIEC) in favour of APC, among other things.
Igbokwe, while saying that the APC’s attention had been drawn to a press conference held by Salvador, where he claimed that the July 22, 2017 local government poll was marred by rigging, irregularities and the snatching of ballot boxes by hoodlums working for APC, described the remark by the PDP chieftain as “the height of political irresponsibility and a shame that a party that is not prepared to face the July 22nd elections is coming out now to cry wolf when there is none.”
Igbokwe, who recalled how badly devastated the PDP in the state had become, following the crisis that rocked its national leadership before the Supreme Court came to rescue the situation and how the party could not penetrate the grassroots even with its alliance with Labour Party in the last council poll, declared that the Lagos PDP knew it had never been on ground in the state and should, therefore, keep quite.
“Lagos PDP knows it is not on ground in Lagos and can never be on ground for a long time to come. APC has a cult of committed and dedicated followers in Lagos who labour even without being plodded to support and stand behind the leaders and the party they have known since 1999. They know that neither Asiwaju BAT, Fashola nor Ambode have failed them. Our followers tell us that the 57/57 bold political statement in July 22 2017 is a way of showing gratitude to Governor Akinwunmi Ambode’s excellent, stellar and superlative performance in just two years. They say this will encourage him to do more.
“Lagos PDP should just keep quiet and go home to find out where the rains started beating them. The confusion in PDP was noticed today, July 26 2017 press conference in Lagos as they could not agree on what to present to the public. This blame game and the attempt to shift blames will not help the party. Only an honest self-re-examination and soul searching can do the magic.
“What Lagos PDP is saying can be likened to the tale of two women in the Bible, who one out of carelessness overlaid her child and the child died and when she could not claim the living child demanded of King Solomon to kill the living child so that two of them would become childless,” the APC spokesperson said.
