Adeleye emphasised the importance of acquiring the latest skills in information and communication technology (ICT) as a solution to unemployment. He disclosed that the fourth edition of the summit will take place from Tuesday, October 29th, through Friday, November 1st, 2024, in Abeokuta.
He urged youths to harness the power of technology to tackle challenges in various sectors, creating jobs and contributing to economic value chains that promote national prosperity. Highlighting the outcomes of previous summits, Adeleye mentioned the construction of a N10 million IT station at Isara Remo, in collaboration with the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), aimed at providing local learners with access to IT resources.
Sola Otesile, Director of the Ogun Digital Summit, added that this year’s event, themed “Innovation: Pathway to Our Nation’s Prosperity,” will expose over 5,000 youths to cutting-edge, high-demand technology. Otesile emphasised that the summit would empower youths to make meaningful contributions to Nigeria’s development.
“One of the main reasons for organising this summit is to open young people’s eyes to the proper and productive ways of using technology. Technology is a double-edged sword—it can either make or mar your life depending on how you use it,” Otesile explained.
He stressed that many young people are successfully leveraging technology for legitimate opportunities, such as remote work, without resorting to internet fraud. The summit, Otesile noted, will highlight IT skills in high demand and present youths with pathways to becoming solution providers in various industries.
The event is expected to attract key figures from the digital sector, including business leaders, policymakers, investors, founders, and technology experts, who will share knowledge and discuss strategies to drive digital innovation and enhance national prosperity.
Special Adviser to Governor Dapo Abiodun on ICT, Dayo Abiodun, reaffirmed the government’s commitment to fostering sustainable digital innovation for the benefit of Ogun State residents. Represented by Mrs Olawunmi Banjo, he reiterated the government’s support for the annual digital summit as part of its mission to encourage digital transformation among youth.
Abiodun encouraged young people to embrace the training opportunities offered by the summit to build better futures for themselves and contribute to national development.
Among those expected to attend the summit are renowned cinematographer Tunde Kelani; actors Lateef Adedimeji and Kunle Afolayan; international fashion designer Kiki Osinbajo; Flutterwave founder Olugbenga Agboola; and the Director-General of NITDA, Kashifu Abdullahi, among others.
