THE Ladoke Akintola University of Technology (LAUTECH), Ogbomoso, has organised a valedictory lecture in honour of the immediate past Chief Medical Director of LAUTECH Teaching Hospital, Professor George Opadijo, in respect of his retirement from the Department of Internal Medicine of the hospital.

A professor of medicine and consultant physician and cardiologist, Philip Kolo, who delivered the lecture in Ogbomoso, described cardiovascular disease as the umbrella term for all diseases affecting the heart and blood vessels.

He noted that the diseases have remained the leading cause of death and disability globally.

The medical expert listed traditional risk factors associated with cardiovascular events to include age, high blood pressure, smoking, diabetes and obesity.

Professor Kolo described the honoree, Professor Opadijo, as a teacher par excellence, noting that his mentoring capacity was next to none.

Speaking at the reception, the acting Chief Medical Director of the hospital, Professor Olawale Olakulehin, described Professor Opadijo as a thoroughbred professional whose wealth of experience would be greatly missed.

In a remark, Professor Opadijo appreciated the Internal Medicine Department and the dignitaries present at the event.

He stated that he may be retiring from service, but he would continue to give back to his community.
