Kwara state government has embarked on the construction of isolation centers for victims of Lassa fever at Sobi Specialist hospital in Ilorin.
Speaking during his visit to the site of the facility in Ilorin on Thursday, the commissioner for Health, Dr. Raji Razak, also directed rapid response team in the state Ministry of Health to embark on aggressive public enlightenment and training of health workers across the state on prevention of Lassa fever epidemic.

Dr. Razak, who said that all hands must be on deck to prevent the outbreak of the infection in the state, directed the contractor in charge of the project to speed up the construction work.
The commissioner explained that an alternative facility has been put in place to serve as a temporary centre before the completion of the project.
Also speaking, the Director of Public Health in the state, Dr. Oluwatosin Fakayode, said the isolation center is first of its kind in North Central zone of Nigeria.
Dr. Fakayode also advised residents of the state to report any suspected case of Lassa fever to the nearest health facility in the state for prompt action.
