The Lagos State Police Command’s detectives have arrested four individuals involved in orchestrating the fake kidnapping of Agnes Ogbeh.
Among those arrested are Margret Itodo (25), Agnes Ogbeh herself (23), Esther Anyanwu (24), and Anthony Chinakwe (24).
The incident unfolded on March 19, 2024, when Agnes Ogbeh, a resident of Akure, travelled to Lagos and allegedly fell victim to a staged kidnapping.
Agnes’s family in Akure received a distressing video depicting Agnes and another individual bound, gagged, and appearing distressed, with blood droplets visible.
The purported kidnappers demanded a ransom of five million naira for Agnes’s release.
Promptly responding to the complaint, detectives from the command initiated a thorough and discreet investigation.
Through diligent efforts, the investigators successfully located the hideout where Agnes, the other woman from the video, and two additional individuals were found living freely together.
Subsequent inquiries revealed that Margret Itodo, a professional make-up artist, had been engaged to create the video, lending it an appearance of authenticity.
All four suspects have confessed to their involvement in the deceitful scheme and are awaiting arraignment pending the conclusion of the investigation.
The Commissioner of Police for the Lagos State Command, CP Adegoke Fayoade, mni, has commended the detectives for their swift and effective investigation.
He urges residents of Lagos to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the nearest security agency, emphasising the importance of collective efforts in maintaining public safety and security.
