The Lagos State Government and the People’s Republic of China have renewed their commitment to strengthening cultural and heritage ties through strategic collaboration.
Mr. Idris Aregbe, Special Adviser to Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu on Tourism, Arts and Culture, disclosed this in a statement on Tuesday following a courtesy visit by senior Chinese officials to the ministry’s headquarters in Lagos.
Aregbe noted that the partnership would deepen bilateral relations and unlock new opportunities in heritage preservation, job creation, tourism promotion, cultural exchange, and travel policies.
“Our ministry is passionate about developing and implementing strategic plans that will drive cultural growth, encourage artistic creativity, and showcase the unique heritage and artistic expressions of Lagos State,” he said.

He expressed satisfaction with China’s interest in initiatives such as the 72-hour Lagos Cultural Weekend and the state’s wider cultural calendar.
He also acknowledged the contributions of the Chinese community to Lagos’ development, pledging the administration’s readiness to make the state a second home for them.
Speaking during the visit, Zhang Xiaoqin, Vice Chairman of the Standing Committee of Guangxi People’s Congress, reaffirmed China’s commitment to supporting programmes that will benefit both Lagos residents and the Chinese community in Nigeria.
Other members of the Chinese delegation included Yan Yuqing, Consul General of China in Lagos; Lu Bo, Vice Director-General of the General Office of Guangxi People’s Congress; Song Haijun, Deputy Director-General of Guangxi Foreign Affairs Office and Head of the Coordinating Group of Guangxi African Work Team; and Bin Zhengying, Deputy Director-General of Guangxi Public Security Department, among others.
The courtesy visit was also attended by directors and senior officials of the Lagos State Ministry of Tourism, Arts and Culture.
