A 34-year-old businessman, Ifeanyi Olukwu, who allegedly obtained the sum of N3.8 million under false pretences, on Thursday appeared before an Ojo Magistrates’ Court in Lagos.
The defendant is standing trial before Magistrate, Mr L.K.J Layeni, on a two-count charge of obtaining by false pretences and stealing.
He, however, pleaded not guilty to the charge.
The prosecutor, ASP Simon Uche, told the court that the defendant committed the offences sometime in March, at the Abule-Ado area of Ojo.
He alleged that the defendant obtained the sum of N3.8 million from one Mr Raymond Okolie, with a promise to help him send the money to China.

The prosecutor said that the defendant knew that the representation he made was false.
He said that the defendant failed to send the money but converted it to his personal use.
According to him, the offences contravene the provisions of Section 287 and 314 of the Criminal Law of Lagos State 2015.
The magistrate granted the defendant bail in the sum of N500,000 with two sureties in like sum.
He adjourned the case until Feb. 4, 2025 for mention.
