Kwara State Police Command has arrested a total number of 14 suspects over alleged criminal conspiracy, armed robbery, cultism, and culpable homicide.
Parading the suspects in Ilorin, the new state commissioner of Police, Victor Olaiya, said that arms and other dangerous weapons were also recovered from the suspects.
The Police boss said that one Ms Opadiran Yetunde of the Egbejila area of Ilorin reported that about four men invaded her residence and carted away valuables worth millions of naira in a robbery operation.
He said investigations into the case led to the recovery of her vehicle in Lagos from one Abdulsalam Nurudeen Saka and Segun.
Olaiya said the suspects mentioned three other accomplices at large during interrogation.
Talking on another case, the Police commissioner said that three suspects were on October 15, 2023, at a police checkpoint on Eiyenkorin/Ogbomoso highway while in transit in a commercial vehicle from Ibadan.
The commissioner said that in a similar case, a notorious armed robbery suspect, Jamiu Idowu Aje and Shittu Sherrif, aka Abule, were arrested over the case of alleged criminal conspiracy, illegal possession of firearms and being members of a secret cult.
He said the suspects confessed to having participated in a series of armed robberies during interrogation.
Mr Olaiya said that in October this year, three suspects were also arrested over cultism, and a cut to size local made single barrel gun was recovered.
He said the other suspects were arrested following a complaint by a bread seller at the Oja Oba roundabout of an attack by an armed gang.
The commissioner said during the attack, the suspects shot two children of the bread seller one was injured, and the other, a 15-year-old Mariam Abdullahi Sarumi, died on the spot.
He said all the suspects would be charged in court as soon as investigations were concluded.
