The Director of Finance at the Hadejia Jama’are River Basin, Dr. Musa Illiyasu Kwankwaso, has commended President Bola Tinubu for approving an 80 percent subsidy on kidney dialysis treatment.
He noted that this initiative will significantly alleviate the financial burdens that patients faced while seeking treatment.
Kwankwaso reminded the public that President Tinubu had previously reduced the cost of dialysis from N50,000 to N12,000 across ten Federal medical institutions nationwide.
Speaking to the press in Kano on Friday, Kwankwaso, expressed gratitude for the prompt action taken by President Tinubu, highlighting that many kidney dialysis patients have lost their lives due to financial constraints preventing them from receiving necessary treatment.
He emphasised that with the approved subsidy, which drastically reduces the treatment cost from N50,000 to N12,000, many lives will be saved as more individuals will now be able to afford the treatment.
Additionally, Dr. Kwankwaso praised President Tinubu for the decision to grant automatic employment to all 774 Fellows of the National Health Fellowship (NHF) upon completion of their program.
He stated that President Tinubu who made the announcement on Thursday during the presidential launch of the program in Abuja, however, stressed the program’s role in strengthening Nigeria’s healthcare system, describing it as a vital pillar of national development.
Kwankwaso added that the initiative is a key component of Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, designed to revitalise Nigeria’s primary healthcare system.
He, however, urged the 774 local government authorities to ensure that they submitted their respective account details to the appropriate agency to pave the way for proper transfer of local government allocation to them.
The Director of Finance for the Hadejia Jama’are River Basin noted that with local government autonomy, communities at the grassroots level will begin to feel and see the execution of significant projects, as they will receive allocations from the Federal Executive Council every month.
Kwankwaso recalled his time as the chairman of the Madobi Local Government Council in Kano when his council received its allocations directly. During that time, many developmental projects were successfully executed.
He emphasized that all patriotic citizens of the country should thank the President for granting local autonomy, as this will allow local governments to operate independently from their respective states.
Kwankwaso urged state governments not to view the approval of local government autonomy as a means to create animosity between them and their local councils, but rather as a way to advance the state’s progress.
He called for cooperation with the Federal Government on this initiative and encouraged state governors to rally around their local government councils to ensure the program is successful, as Kwankwaso stated.
