The Katsina State Government has formed a high-powered committee led by Alhaji Falalu Bawale, the state’s Head of Civil Service, to investigate the root cause of the fire outbreak in sections of the Governor’s office early on Monday morning.
A statement by Abdullahi Yar’Adua, the Director of Press in the SGS office said, the inferno damaged the chamber attached to the Governor’s office.
The statement said, efforts of the firefighters from both the Federal and State services contained the spread of the inferno before it could escalate to other parts of the office.
Governor Dikko Umaru Radda, in a swift response, tasked the committee to identify the cause of the fire outbreak and the extent of damage to the structure.
He also charged the committee to identify lapses if any that led to the incident, recommend ways to avert future occurrences and give any other recommendations that is essential in the circumstances.
The statement said Radda Governor further mandated the committee to co-opt any person (s) that could help in the discharge of it’s assignment and submit it’s report within the next seven days.
Other members of the committee include the Commissioners of Works, Housing and Transport, Budget and Planning, Justice, Internal Security and Home Affairs and that of Information and Culture.
The rest are the Permanent Secretary of Government House and the state Commander of the Federal Fire Service, while the Governor’s office will provide the Secretary of the committee.
The Governor expressed confidence in the committee’s ability to thoroughly investigate the incident and provide recommendations to prevent future occurrence.
