The Kano state government says it will upgrade Dawanau Grains Market to an international market.
Mr Bashir Mudi, the Managing Director, Kano State Urban Planning and Development Authority (KNUPDA), made the promise on Friday in Kano during an interview with the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN)
Mudi said the market would be upgraded to meet international standard with a view to promoting commercial activities in the state and economy of the country.
“Upgrading of the Dawanau market is part of the government’s large-scale plan of a comprehensive infrastructural renewal of the commercial city,” he said.
He said that the project would also boost Internally Generated Revenue (IGR) of the state government.
Mudi said that the state government had launched an urban renewal project to cost N1.6 billion.
“The programme tagged, “Lunguna Kal Kal”, is expected to gulp N1. 6 billion under the first phase at Kankarofi quarters in Kano City,” he said.
He said that the project involved construction of concrete drainages, cover slabs, interlocking tiles as well as street lights.
“Under the first phase, are the eight metropolitan local government areas of Kano municipal, Gwale, Tarauni, Ungoggo, Nassarawa, Fagge, Dala and Kumbotso will benefit,” he said.
He said that the project would go a long way in addressing health challenges in the state, especially Malaria.
