Kano govt launches massive agricultural intervention

Kano State Government has embarked on a comprehensive agricultural intervention to restore the state’s former glory as a leading agricultural hub.

This was just as the state government disclosed that the federal government has also provided MPK and Urea fertilizers, which will be distributed to farmers through a committee, comprised of traditional, and religious institutions, police, and other stakeholders.

However, the commissioner for agriculture, Dr Danjuma Mahmoud disclosed this on Tuesday while speaking in an interview with press in Kano

The government has spent N1.2 billion on 52 trucks of fertilizer and N5 billion on 180 trucks, with the state-owned KASCO producing 200,000 trucks of fertilizer before the end of the season,” he said

According to him, the state government is declining 20 abundant dams, including the Kafinchiri dam, and clearing 1,299 hectares of irrigation farming land at Dansoshiya Village.

Dr Mahmoud further disclosed
that government has distributed 52 trucks of fertilizer to farmers in the 44 local government areas, free and purchased an additional 180 trucks from KASCO, selling them at subsidised rates.

He therefore stated that the government’s efforts to train 440 extension workers, who have been dispatched to local governments to enlighten farmers on new improved seeds and farming implements.

He then assured the government’s commitment to achieving bumper farming harvests, curbing hunger and starvation, and retaining Kano’s former farming reputation.
