Kalawei-ama community in Southern Ijaw Local Government Area of Bayelsa State has elected and swore in a new paramount ruler, Lloyd P. Sese, and his deputy, Arthur Frank to oversee the affairs of the community.
The people gathered at the town hall of the community to elect their new traditional leaders.
His Highness Sese, who served as deputy paramount ruler of the community for over 30 years, polled 61 votes alongside his deputy, His Highness Arthur after those who contested against them withdrew from the race.
While declaring the results of the election conducted in a transparent, free and fair manner, the returning officer, Chief Francis Wainwei, announced that 61 voters were duly accredited and 61 votes were cast while void votes were zero; thanking members of the community for their peaceful disposition during the polls and called on neighbouring communities to borrow a leaf from Kalawei-ama community.
Speaking with newsmen shortly after the swearing-in process, Lloyd Sese attributed his emergence to the handiwork of God, called on his subjects to join hands with him to move the community forward, while preaching the gospel of love to unite Kalawei-ama community more than ever before.
The new paramount ruler further promised to work in collaboration with the state government and security agencies to bring about the needed peace; especially among the youth of the community.
Voters, who spoke to the Nigerian Tribune described the electoral process as peaceful, free, fair and credible, just as they commended the electoral committee for organising an acceptable election.
