THE Kaduna State Independent Electoral Commission (KADSIECOM) has announced 12th May 2018 as the date it will conduct the local government elections in the state.
This was even as it announced fees for the LG polls.
Chairman KADSIECOM, Mrs Saratu Binta Dikko-Audu announced this, while unveiling the timetable of the election at the State Independent Electoral Commission on Friday.
According to her, “We have not increased the charges for the candidates, the council chairman candidates will each pay N200,000, while councillorship aspirants will pay N50,000 each,”
Commenting further, she clarified that the commission will use the register from the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) while advising those who registered newly and have not been captured to be patient till the 2019 general elections.
Also, she said ad-hoc staff, had been screened, saying, the commission is ready to conduct a free, fair and credible election.
Dikko also dispelled the fear of network failure during the LG polls in remote areas on election day, saying, “voting doesn’t rely on the network.
“On election day we are deploying transponders to boost network. But don’t worry about the network, because the machines work without the network. The network is only needed when transmitting the results. That can be done when they get back to where there is a network,” she assured.
In attendance at the meeting were top KADSIECOM executives, security agencies, political parties and civil society organisations.
