In less than 24 hours to the February 16 presidential election, the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) candidate, Alhaji Atiku Abubakar, said he received a phone call from the United States Secretary of State, Michael Pompeo, over the coming polls.
Atiku, announcing the development via his Twitter handle, Friday afternoon, said, Pompey, expressing his concern over the election, affirmed the international community’s commitment to free, fair and credible elections in Nigeria.
Atiku wrote on his Twitter handle: “Earlier today I received a call from US Secretary of State, @SecPompeo, who reaffirmed the international community’s commitment to free and fair elections in Nigeria.” He also said that he was, “Wishing you all a peaceful elections, wherever you are. God bless Nigeria.”
Earlier on Thursday, a former President of the United States, Bill Clinton, had called the Nigerian President Muhamadu Buhari, who is the candidate of the All Progressives Congress, APC, Muhammadu Buhari, on phone to wish him and Nigerians well ahead of Saturday’s general elections.
