Jonathan’s ex-aide laments lack of democratic principles in political system

The immediate past Special Adviser to former President Goodluck Jonathan on Public Relations, Dr. Olusanya Awosan on Sunday decried lack of ethics and democratic principles in the nation’s political system, saying many existing political parties could best be described as vehicle for promotion of selfish economic and social interest.

Awosan stated this at a press conference held at the International Press Centre (IPC) in Lagos, even as he observed that events in the last few years had shown depreciation in ethical and social values required to maintain a stable and people oriented political system in the country.

“Many existing political parties can best be described as vehicle for promotion of selfish economic and social interest of very few at the expense of the greater percentage of the people,” he said.

Awosan said it was the observable trend that necessitated the formation of the National Action Group of Nigeria, a political movement he submitted was focused on promotion of ethical and social values necessary to establish a stable and responsive political party system in the country.

He said the platform had the objective to galvanise young Nigerians with requisite mental magnitude to show more interest in local and national political affairs.

Awosan said the new political platform would help to encourage political parties to subscribe to important value of personal discipline and transparent conduct in governance.
