Jim Ovia bags another honour

Zenith Bank founder and chairman, Jim Ovia, has had a bag full of laurels! The most recent of his honours was the prestigious Freedom of the City of London award, recognizing his outstanding contributions to banking, innovation, and philanthropy.

The ceremony took place at London’s historic Guildhall on April 7, 2025, as part of the Commonwealth Business and Investment Council conference.

The Freedom of the City of London is one of the oldest traditional honors, dating back to the 13th century, and is bestowed upon individuals who have made significant contributions to their fields. Ovia’s recognition highlights his role in shaping Nigeria’s financial landscape and strengthening economic ties between Africa and the global community.

The event was attended by prominent figures, including former Nigerian President Olusegun Obasanjo, Lagos State Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu, Delta State Governor Sheriff Oborevwori, Enugu State Governor Peter Mbah, and business magnate Aliko Dangote. Also present were the Obi of Onitsha, Igwe Nnaemeka Alfred Achebe, and Cardinal John Onaiyekan, among others.

Jim Ovia’s achievements have previously been recognized with honors such as the Commander of the Federal Republic (CFR) and the National Productivity Order of Merit (NPOM) Award. His latest accolade further cements his status as a leading figure in global finance and a proud ambassador of Nigerian excellence.
