Jigawa State Governor, Umar Namadi, has expressed concern over what he described as the unacceptable attitude of some political appointees who have distanced themselves from the people while citing a lack of logistics and government support.
He made this known during a high-level meeting with members of the State House of Assembly and political appointees at the Government House in Dutse.
Namadi stressed that commitment to citizens’ welfare and selfless service must remain central to governance, describing leadership as a responsibility to serve and fulfil campaign promises.
The governor said his administration remains committed to improving living standards through the equitable execution of human and infrastructural development projects anchored on its 12-point agenda.
He directed that any appointee who feels unable to support constituents, either financially or materially, should resign from office.
Despite his concerns, Namadi commended a few appointees for their contributions, noting that several accepted their roles out of a genuine desire to serve.
He warned, however, that the conduct of political office holders would henceforth be closely monitored, with an emphasis on loyalty, discipline, and performance.
The governor dismissed recent defections as inconsequential, suggesting that those who left may not have contributed meaningfully to party cohesion.
As part of efforts to strengthen unity ahead of the 2027 general elections, Namadi announced the inauguration of political mobilisation committees at state, local government, and ward levels.
He said the committees would engage party members, reconcile aggrieved stakeholders, re-energise inactive members, and promote inclusiveness.
According to the governor, the structure will be led at the state level by himself, with commissioners and advisers heading local government committees, while ward structures will be coordinated by grassroots leaders.
Namadi explained that the initiative is also aimed at early preparation for the 2027 polls through sustained mobilisation, voter sensitisation, and continuous registration.
He emphasised the need for unity as the political space expands, urging stakeholders to manage new entrants carefully to preserve harmony within the party.
On political ambition, the governor cautioned aspirants against desperation, reminding them that leadership is determined by divine will and should not be pursued as a “do-or-die” affair.
