The Youth Wing of the Christian Association of Nigeria (YOWICAN), has called on the Nigerian government to expedite actions to ameliorate the sufferings of Nigerians.
This appeal was contained in a communiqué issued after the Association’s National Executive Council (NEC) meeting held in Abuja.
In the communiqué, which was read by the Chairman of the Association, Belusochukwu Enwere, YOWICAN expressed concern over the increasing cost of living, which has led to widespread hunger and suffering among Nigerians.
They condemned the escalating insecurity in the country, particularly the recent attacks on Christians in Plateau State and other parts of the country.
YOWICAN further demanded the immediate arrest and public prosecution of a Muslim cleric who allegedly called for the killing of the wife of the President for being a Christian.
The Association emphasised the need for swift action to prevent further deterioration of the security situation.
“The NEC is calling for the public prosecution of the Cleric and wish to request the said preacher should be restricted from preaching in Nigeria to serve as a deterrent to others,” the communiqué said.
YOWICAN also highlighted the rising unemployment among youths in the country and called on the government to implement policies to address this issue.
The association stressed the importance of involving youths in the nation’s development process.
They, however, urged all Christian youths to remain committed to their associations and activities at the local, zonal, and state levels.
