Insurgency: We’ve made gains, but battle far from over — CDS

The Chief of Defence Staff, General Christopher Musa, has acknowledged the military’s progress in combating terrorism and criminality in the North-East but cautioned that the battle is far from over.

General Musa made this statement during his assessment visit to the troops of Operation Hadin Kai North-East at Maimalari Cantonment in Maiduguri, Borno State, on Thursday.

He emphasized, “Our ultimate goal is to secure Nigeria and make it a peaceful nation. This is a collective responsibility, and I am confident that together, we will achieve it.”

Commending the troops for their efforts, General Musa said, “We have made significant strides in combating terrorism and criminality, but our work is far from over. I urge you to remain focused and committed to our mission. We must not relent until we have completely eradicated these threats.”

To further boost troop morale, General Musa announced measures to prioritize welfare and rotation, ensuring no individual serves more than two years without opportunities for courses and training.

He added, “Discipline is what sets us apart. I commend your exceptional performance in every operation. Remember, your families are counting on you, and we have made provisions to ensure they are well taken care of.”

General Musa expressed gratitude to the troops for their sacrifices and acknowledged their outstanding performance during the recent flooding.

“The entire country applauds your conduct, attitude, and prompt response,” he stated. “Mr. President and the good people of Nigeria are especially grateful for your service.”

During his visit, General Musa extended his sympathies to Shehu Abubakar Ibn Garbai Al-Amin Elkanemi over the recent flooding that devastated Maiduguri city. He also met with Governor Babagana Umara Zulum and visited affected areas.

Accompanied by top military officials, including the Chief of Army Staff, Chief of Naval Staff, and Chief of Air Staff, General Musa prayed for God’s protection against future calamities.
