Hydroelectric Power Producing Area Development Commission (HYPPADEC) has acquired over 1,000 motorcycles to be distributed to states in the North Central as part of its contribution towards arresting insecurity in the country.
The Managing Director of HYPPADEC, Mr Abubakar Sediq Yelwa, disclosed this to newsmen in Jos shortly after a stakeholder meeting on the dissemination of the report on the outcome of the NEEDS assessment exercise conducted by HYPPADEC and her technical/development partner, the new approach, held in Plateau State.
Mr Yelwa pointed out that the motorcycles will be distributed to the security agencies including the Vigilantes adding that 100 will be distributed to the security operatives in three Local Government Areas of Plateau State.
“In Plateau State, one hundred motorcycles will be released to Barakin-Ladi, Bassa and Bokkos local governments to address security challenges facing these council areas. We are making them available to the vigilante, police and the DSS manning these communities.
“We are also in Jos to present the reports of enumerating exercise we carried out to know the basic problems facing the HYPADIEC communities in Plateau State and also for the communities to tell us their own position in the exercise we had,” Yelwa said.
The Managing Director equally pointed out that 300 youths in Plateau State will benefit from the Youth Transformation programme put in place by HYPADEC to curb unemployment in the country adding that the programme will enable youths in the country to learn various skills.
“We realised that there are so many unemployed youths in these communities and as a result, it is not possible to employ everyone. So we encourage these youths to learn a skill, after learning the skills we give them start-up packs. We also help them to reach out to financial institutions that can give further funding,” he said.
