The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) presented a certificate of return on Wednesday to the lawmaker representing Amuwo-Odofin Constituency 11 at the Lagos State House of Assembly, Hon. Wale Rauf.
Dismissing an appeal filed by the Labour Party candidate, David Doherty, the Court of Appeal affirmed the ruling of the House of Assembly Election Petition Tribunal, declaring Rauf as the winner of the State Assembly election held on March 18, 2023.
During the presentation ceremony, Hon. Rauf dedicated his victory to God, the Lagos APC, and his constituents. He assured the people of Amuwo-Odofin Constituency 2, and indeed the people of Lagos State, of adequate and selfless representation.
“I feel good and fulfilled. This victory is dedicated to my constituents and the good people of Lagos state. It’s democracy at work. We are a confederation, and I see myself as a representative of all. Whether from the opposition or the ruling party, we are all one and should see ourselves as one people regardless of party affiliation.
The trust is still intact, and I will ensure that I represent them without any blemish. Rauf will be returning to the House to serve as a second-term lawmaker, having served between 2019 and 2023.
In his opening remarks, INEC Resident Electoral Commissioner in Lagos State, Prof. Ayobami Salami, urged the lawmaker to contribute his quota to the development of his constituency and Nigeria as a whole.
