Kano state governor, Abba Yusuf has handed over seven children rescued by the Kano state police command from the hands of human traffickers to their parents.
He also gave each parent of the children a sum of N500,000, as transportation and upkeep.
It would be recalled that the Kano Police Command, on December 15, smashed a syndicate that specialises in the abduction, buying and selling of minors from Kano and Bauchi states
However, the command said that nine suspects had been arrested from the syndicate, which was operating around Kano, Bauchi, Lagos, Delta, Anambra and Imo states.
While speaking before the official handover to the parents of the victims, majority of whom were from Bauchi State, Governor Yusuf expressed dismay over the unfortunate development.
Governor Yusuf expressed surprise at the heinous acts of the criminal gang that specializes in the abduction, trafficking, and sale of children from the Northern states.
He condemned the act adding that how would these set of human traffickers feel if it was Hausa people who had abducted Igbo children
“I’m not happy, look at this innocent girl that was abducted when she was just a month plus now a seven years old, fluently speaking the Igbo language, but could no longer hear her parent language which is Hausa.
“This is an act of inhumanity to innocent children. I’m just sad and not happy.”
Yusuf, however, tasked parents to remain vigilant and attentive to the well-being of their children as a fundamental responsibility.
He then called on his counterpart, the Bauchi State Governor, to take decisive legal action against the arrested suspects.
Yusuf then made a passionate appeal to the Kano state commissioner of Police, Husaini Mohammed Gumel, to assist the state in rescuing the 11 Kano children who were abducted and sold in Anambra a few years ago.
While announcing the donation of N500,000 to each of the seven victims, the governor also urged the Bauchi state governor to empower the parents.
In his response, Malam Saad from Bauchi, on behalf of the rescued children’s parents and one of the victims, Abdulmutallif Saad, expressed gratitude to the governor and the Commissioner of Police, Mohammed Usaini Gumel.
While speaking on behalf of the Bauchi state government, Sha’awanatu Yusuf, the Director of Public Prosecution at the state Ministry of Justice, clamoured for the prosecution of the suspects.
