Afro Melody artiste, Tosintellem, who released The ‘Otunba of Lagos EP’ recently spoke with SEGUN ADEBAYO about his career and what to expect from him in the new year.
How does Tosintellem demonstrate versatility in his music style, considering the fusion of Afrobeats rhythms and global influences in ‘The Otunba of Lagos’?
I am actively trying to blend Afrobeats rhythms with diverse global influences in a very seamless manner that creates a dynamic musical fusion which in turn appeals to a wide audience while maintaining a distinct and innovative sound.
Can you elaborate on how you experiment with different sounds and styles, as seen in ‘WTF Is This’, and your other songs?
I am passionate about pushing musical boundaries and that is what mix of different sounds on this track basically portrays. You can see we ended up creating a unique and unconventional vibe.
What aspects of your craft contribute to the EP being described as a seven-track masterpiece?
The production, lyrics, smooth transitions, and diverse sound choices in each track made it possible for us to arrive at seven tracks that are all mind blowing. That’s a masterpiece in my opinion.
How do you balance traditional elements with contemporary sounds in your songs?
I combined traditional Afrobeats with contemporary sounds in ‘The Otunba of Lagos’, and that helps to showcase my passion and commitment to new innovations as I earlier said.

The captivating rhythms, intricate melody, and skillful arrangements across each track.
Can you discuss how the track ‘Move’ exemplifies your skill in creating an instant groove with smooth vocals and pulsating beats?
The rhythm of that song effortlessly draws listeners in. Myself and Benie Macaulay instantly clicked on that song and that made it easy to deliver such an amazing song.

The blend of different influences contributes to the timelessness of the EP by creating a rich and diverse musical tapestry. The fusion of various elements ensures that the music remains fresh and relevant across different eras, appealing to a broad audience and solidifying the EP’s enduring appeal.
What does the EP reveal about your commitment to creating fresh and exciting music?
It basically reveals to every listener and the world at large that I am not scared of making bold experimentations and that’s how the greatest things in life are birthed.\
