Unknown gunmen in the early hours of Friday invaded a police station at Eika in Okehi Local Government area of Kogi State, killing two policemen on duty and a detainee.
The gunmen also attacked the residence of the chairman of the community, Mallam Sadiq Obomi and shot him dead.
Saturday Tribune gathered that the hoodlums, who invaded the community at about 1.00a.m, were shooting sporadically, leading to panic in th area.
They were said to be about 10 and invaded the community in two vehicles.
It was further learnt that the people invaded the station simultaneously from the front and the back doors, thereby caught the officers on duty unaware.
They were said to have opened fire at the two policemen and a middle-aged man that was in custody in the station.
The hoodlums also set ablaze a motorcycle belonging to one of the policemen and parked by the side of the station.
Immediately after the invasion of the station, they were said to have headed to the house of the community chairman which was not far from the station and shot him dead.
Sources however said the hoodlums might have invaded the police station to guide against possible attack by the policemen after the murder of Obomi.
Already fully armed military men have been drafted to the community to avoid further attack by the gunmen.
Kogi State Police Commissioner, Abdullahi Chafe, who confirmed the attack, said security had been fortified in the community.
