Guinness Plc, WaterAid end age-long water scarcity in Eruwa with commissioning of multi-million naira water life project with 84 million litres annual capacity
Guinness Plc in partnership with WaterAid Nigeria on Thursday brought an end to the age-long water scarcity in Eruwa, Ibarapa East local government area with the commissioning of Water of Life Project with annual capacity of 84 million litres.
Speaking at the Commissioning of the project in Eruwa, the Managing Director of Guinness Plc, Mr. John Musunga said similar project is ongoing in three neighbouring communities in the local government area.
Musunga said the project has an annual capacity of 84 million litres which according to him is enough to put an end to the age-long water scarcity in the locality
According to him, the project is the Corporate Social Responsibility of the company to the various communities in the country.
“We have this project in other parts of the country. We started it over 30 years ago. Our various brands in Guinness Plc are all about water. We draw water from the ground and we are given same water back to society through this project.
“This project is enough to serve an estimated 11,000 people.
“Our purpose in Guinness Plc is to celebrate life and this is what we have doing since the company was established.
“However, what we require of the people is adequate and proper maintenance of the project.”
Earlier in his address, the Country Director, WaterAid Nigeria, Nanpet Chuktu disclosed that the project is aimed at increasing access to improved water supply in three communities within Oyo state.
The project will serve three communities; New Eruwa, Lanlate, and Eruwa Township.
Chuktu who stressed the need for adequate and proper maintenance of the project called on the government to make budgetary allocations for its maintenance noting the huge investment.
WaterAid will continue to partner with the state to deliver on the promise of clean water, improved hygiene and sanitation for everyone, everywhere.
Also, in his address, the State governor, Engineer Seyi Makinde who was represented at the occasion by the General Manager of Oyo State Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Agency, Mr. Adeduntan restated his commitment to community development.
He said his administration would continue to focus on all-round development of all the communities in the 33 local government areas of the state.
He commended the efforts of the Guinness Plc and WaterAid for sharing in the vision of Omituntin 2.0.
Speaking in the same vein, the Chairman of Ibarapa East local government, Gbenga Abiodun assured the donors of proper and adequate maintenance of the project.
