ADEOYO Community Advocacy Group has supported the partitioning of the emergency unit of the Adeoyo Maternity Teaching Hospital and pleaded for more support for the hospital, which is foremost in caring for pregnant women and children in Ibadan.
Speaking at the commissioning of the refurbished emergency unit, Sheikh Salahudden Busari, Chairman of the Adeoyo Community Advocacy Group, stated that the unit was the hospital’s entry point and gave a picture of what to expect when individuals came in to seek medical care.
He said one of the mandates of the group was to solicit financial and material support for the delivery of healthcare at the hospital and the partitioning of the emergency unit was decided on to improve the environment in the unit.
Sheikh Busari, who appreciated the individuals who contributed to the project, urged for more support for the hospital’s day-to-day running.
“By calling you to come and witness this event, we believe that you can always, in your various capacities, help mobilise donors, especially the corporate institutions, to support the hospital. They can see it as their corporate social responsibility,” he added.
Chairman at the occasion, Alhaji Abdurazak Olajide of the Olajide Hajj and Umura Services urged Nigerians to donate to the cause of the hospital rather than partying, saying, “It is a worthy cause; we should come to the assistance of our government. The government cannot do everything we need.”
In a remark, the Chief Executive Officer of Lifebuilders, Mrs Grace Oluwatoye, said Nigerians should imbibe the philanthropic spirit and support the provision of relevant equipment and essential materials in hospitals across the country.
Chief Oluwatoye added, “Giving to make health services available to all through relevant equipment and materials is very essential and desirable. It is a noble course.”
Head of the Adeoyo Maternity Teaching Hospital, Dr Aremu Oladipo, stated that the donation was in line with the Oyo state government’s vision of ensuring sustainable healthcare delivery for the citizens of the state.
“This project has no doubt enhanced the beauty of our outpatient department and patient accessibility to use this facility. In recent times, we have also noticed an increase in the number of patients assessing care at Adeoyo Maternity Hospital, so this is an opportunity to challenge well-meaning Nigerians to also come on board and support the vision of His Excellency in making healthcare delivery accessible to all citizens of Oyo State.”
