The Stayalert Human Right Awareness Initiative, a human rights organization has called for an extension of the tenure of the Comptroller General of Nigerian Customs Service, Bashir Adewale Adeniyi in office as CG Customs.
In a statement issued in Owerri on Friday, the Executive Director of Stayalert Human Right Awareness Initiative, Larry Onah said that the organization has passed a vote of confidence on the CG Customs
He said that their resolution for a vote of confidence on the CG Customs followed the outcome of their conduct of monthly performance assessment of government appointees under President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Nigeria civil society groups for their strategic achievements
According to the group, CG Customs has brought about integrity and professionalism to bear in support of the Renewed Hope mantra of President Tinubu.
He said that to ensure transparency and dividends of democracy devoid of abuse of human rights, Nigeria’s custom is nominated as the best-performing government parastatal of the year courtesy of CG Adeniyi’s extra professionalism in the discharge of his lawful duties.
The Executive Director said that the CG of customs has demonstrated capacity, integrity, credibility and due diligence in the discharge of his functions adding that under the leadership of CG Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, Nigeria Customs has recorded the highest revenue generation and also ensured effective trade facilitations towards streamlining operations and enforcing critical directives for the benefit of Nigeria and the promotion of renewed hope agenda.
The Human Rights group described the appointment of Adeniyi as the best gift of President Tinubu to Nigeria and Nigerians adding that under his leadership, Nigeria’s Customs has recorded the highest seizure of contraband containers and goods, ensuring a drastic reduction of corruption in the customs service.
He said: “Today in Nigeria, customs officers stand out in terms of professionalism and integrity in the discharge of their duties courtesy of the CG.”
He said that CGs achievements in the Customs have greatly mobilised citizens’ and international communities’ support and trust for the government of President Tinubu’s government.
He said: “We call for the extension of his tenure so as to serve as an encouragement to other custom officers and other public servants in the discharge of their duties for the nation.”
