Gombe State Governor, Muhammad Inuwa Yahaya has assured that he will take all necessary steps to reposition the health sector, improve efficiency and ensure effective service delivery in the state.
The Governor restated the resolve when he met with officials of Project C.U.R.E. a United State-based healthcare organisation who undertook a needs assessment of health facilities in the state led by Mr Charles Irion who were at the Government House to brief the Governor on their fact-finding mission in secondary health institutions across the 11 local Government areas.
While describing the partnership between his administration and Project C.U.R.E as worthwhile, Inuwa Yahaya said that he will leave no stone unturned in taking measures that will help in addressing healthcare delivery challenges in the state.
He then decried the dire condition of the hospitals in the state and the bad maintenance culture of the people, vowing to ensure judicious and effective use of the items to be provided by the project.

While appreciating their visit and the humanitarian services the organisation is providing across the globe, Inuwa Yahaya assured that the materials that will be provided will be used for the purposes they are meant for.
The team leader, Mr Charles Irion had earlier informed the Governor that they visited 17 hospitals and assessed their respective needs, lamenting that most of the secondary healthcare facilities in the state are in need of quick intervention, with most of the equipment and facilities suffering from years of neglect.
He said that with the conclusion of their needs assessment tour, his organisation is now in the position to begin necessary arrangements for shipment of lightly used hospital equipment to support Governor Inuwa Yahaya’s drive towards the speedy repositioning of the health sector.
Charles Irion further said that the process might take between 3-6 months, revealing that the materials will come according to the needs of each hospital so assessed.
Project C.U.R. E is an international organisation that specialises in partnering with states in the developing countries to offer support to hospitals, clinics and community health centres to help them provide quality healthcare and other critical medical services.
The organisation came to Gombe state at the instance of Governor Inuwa Yahaya and carried out a needs assessment of hospitals with a view to ascertaining the equipment and facilities needed to improve healthcare delivery service in the state as contained in a statement by Ismaila Uba Misilli, Senior Special Assistant, Media and Publicity to the Governor.
